Recipes

Welcome to the test kitchen of Father's World. We tried to put together some recipes for those busy days, busy nights, busy weeks, or just plain busy lives. As parents of kids who's famous words are "What's to eat."

One of the things that we have always tried to do is involve our children in what we do. By doing so we hope that they learn something while they are having fun. So we have added a new section called Dads and Kids Cookin Together. Besides the recipes in this section, we have included information on safety, tools and teaching aids.

Along with the recipes we have listed here, please send us your favorite one to recipes@fathersworld.com, so we can include it.

Good Nutrition
In 1992, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) released the Food Guide Pyramid, a tool for nutrition education. The food groups have been the foundation of nutrition education since the turn of the century.

The Food Guide Pyramid is simply a basic outline of how much food to eat from each of the five food groups. It is a guide to help you select a healthful diet that's right for you. Think of the foods you eat as a giant pyramid. Food groups—which are made up of foods with similar nutrients—form the building blocks of the pyramid. Like a giant puzzle, the pyramid is incomplete if any piece is removed. The same is true of a nutritious diet. Each food group is equally important because each plays a unique role in health. If any one food group is missing or eliminated, special attention must be paid to make sure the major nutrients supplied by those foods are made up elsewhere.

Ask the Expert

We have focused our attention on dinner, but as all the experts tell us breakfast is the most important meal of the day for both our children and you, so please do not forget to eat a good one. The recipes are divided into meat dishes and boy do we have recipes for beef, pork, chicken, turkey and seafood. Of course we can't forget about vegetrians, so we have meatless dishes for them. We also have recipes for side dishes, appetizers. Before we serve dessert, we have to make sure you eat everything on your plate. So the dessert section is not yet complete. Let us know we you have eatten everything on your plate.

Suggestions? Feedback? We'd love to hear from you.
